Inspired by the teachings of the Patron Saint of Modern India,
the aim of the Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission is to serve the
most destitute in spirit, and offer a sense of responsibility,
sacrifice, service and devotion to the healing of the sick and
feeding of the hungry.
The Medical Mission started in 1972 by opening a medical
dispensary in a former cowshed at Muttil near Kalpetta. Through
dedication, volunteers steadily grew the effort into a hospital
with three medical officers and visiting specialists.
